A full day is usually a safe estimate, but it does vary depending on the size and model of your fridge.

Got new frig 11/28/2011...was told this. Can bePlugged in immediately if it was never laying down, cold enough in 3-4 hours, put any cold drinks or frozen water gallons in to help it cool faster, don't put meat or fish in for at least 6 hours. Don't worry, be happy!

Final Answer: With a new fridge... When you get it home let it sit UNPLUGGED for 12 hours (coolant/compressor reasons), then let it cool down for 6 hours (to regulate)before loading food in. This will validate all warranties and maintain proper temps for your food. Cheers!

Every refrigerator is defferent, however most companies suggest that you leave the refrigerator empty and let it come to temperature overnight. If the air is still too hot or cold, you can adjust it in the morning.

As long as the refrigerator was transported in an upright position, a refrigerator only needs time to cool off so your food stays fresh, plug it in and let it run for about an hour and you should be ready to go. Do not lay the it down to move it or it will need longer before pugging in.

Even though a day is enough, just to make sure, ask store representative once you done shopping with your new refrigerator. Be specific about size and model.

We got a Whirlpool refrigerator and we were told to run it for 24 hours. Not sure if that is because of the brand or that is what it is.
