It should only last a few weeks at most. If It is going on for more than that or gets worse you might want to go back to the doctor.

The common cold usually lasts from 5 to 10 days. You feel worse the first 3 days. A cough can sometimes linger for two weeks. If your symptoms don't improve after two weeks it is possible you have a secondary infection and may require antibiotics by prescription from a doctor. Be sure to get a lot of rest!

A normal cold can be last for four or can be a week also because when cold enters to our body it simply find its place in the joints and it is very difficult for anyone to remove this cold from that place so it can be last for a week also.
