How long does recovery after gastric bypass surgery take?

Realistically it can be 2 to 3 weeks to recover. It can take longer if there are any problems post surgery. According to health professionals you have to take into account what your job demands are and what type of surgery you decided on. Usually it isn't too bad.

If you are having laparoscopic surgery it will take less time than having open gastric surgery. If you take the vitamins they recommend, avoid caffeine and use sugar substitutes you will have a shorter recovery time. I've learned from surgeries that I've had to listen to the doctor.

Laparoscopic gastric bypass surgery patients are typically discharged 2-3 days after surgery. Open gastric bypass patients stay a day or two longer. Typically 2-3 weeks of recovery are needed.

Usually 4-6 weeks for traditional gastric bypass where an incision is made in the abdomen. The lap-band procedure uses laproscopic technology that means only small incisions up to one inch are made in the abdomen and therefore recovery is only a few days to a few weeks.

If there are no serious complication after the surgery the recovery period could take 3 to 5 weeks. Prior to that, patients hospital stay is about 3-4 days.

It took me 3 1/2 weeks to get over the worst of it when I had my gastric bypass surgery. It really wasn't too bad. I did everything they told me to and tried to be as patient as possible... that was the really difficult part of it.

Assuming there are no complications, recovery usually takes three to five weeks. The laparoscopic approach, which makes a very small incision and uses cameras and small tools to guide surgery, usually takes less time to recover from than an open procedure, which involves a large abdominal incision. Almost 30% of patients develop gallstones after surgery.

Usually 6-8 weeks depending on how big your surgical incisions are and your post-op care. If the bypass was done by laproscopy then recovery could be two weeks.

Depending upon how invasive the gastric bypass procedure was, it can take anywhere from a few weeks to 6-8 weeks to resume baseline levels of activity. During this time, patients are usually instructed to follow a "soft" diet.

Gastric bypass surgery is used to make the stomach smaller. Recovery time can vary person to person, but on average it can take weeks before a patient can eat on a regular schedule. Some patients will experience complications from the surgery, such as: gallstones or infection, which could add on more to the recovery time.

Gastric bypass can be done laparoscopically which means a keyhole surgery. The recovery can take weeks before someone is able to eat on its own.

It really depends on how you feel. The typical down time after gastric bypass is around 2 weeks. In some cases with some people, it may take a little longer.

Your recovery results are going to vary with how fast you are generally going to recover. On average, it takes about 3 weeks to recover from the surgery. Your going to be eating light food and also do not do too much stressful work and rest as much as you can.
