If you have arthroscopic surgery, you will probably be driving in a couple of weeks, and resuming most of your normal activities in about 6 weeks. If you have traditional surgery, recovery will take a much longer time, perhaps up to four to six months before you are walking normally.

Well it depends on what type of surgery you got. Generally, an arthroscopic surgery takes 6-8 weeks, an arthroplasty takes 3 weeks (with extended care), a knee replacement takes 1-year.

Yes, the type of surgery matters, but the recovery is up to you. Ask your doctor to prescribe the most rigorous physical therapy possible for your situation and push yourself to the limits if you want to recover as soon as possible. Speaking from current experience with crushed tibial plateau.
