Under the correct conditions, an engine could be stored for up to ten to fifteen years. Without proper maintenance, however, the moving parts will seize, rendering your previously stored engine fairly useless without an extensive mechanical overhaul.

I would suggest not storing you engine for more than a few months because it quite possibly might stop working. Make sure the engine oil is clean before storing it.
