How is market research conducted?

I see stuff about "according to market research," but I want to know where that is coming from.

Primary Qualitative market research is done via online focus groups and feedback forums whereas Primary Quantitative Market Research is done by Customer Surveys and Use Patterns. There is Secondary Market Research where data is obtained from the annual reports published by industry leaders.

There are many different ways do companies perform this research. They use polls and mail in surveys. Some companies will use e-mail surveys after each transaction is done. Some will even call their regular costumers and ask questions. Sometimes they will contact people who have not used their services for some time as to find out why.

This can be done in many different ways. Some firms purchase previously gathered information from marketing companies. If you wish to seek your own genuine information, then you may design a survey that seeks certain information and then post it on the web for consumers to complete. A rather useful site to would be amazon mturk.

Market research may be conducted in a variety of ways. One common type of market research comes from focus groups, where a small group of people meet with a research specialist and give opinions on a real or proposed product or service.

To do market research, a firm usually hires a research firm which then either puts together a series of interviews for customers (if the product is already out in the field), or brings a group of potential customers in house to ask them to try out a new product and provide feedback on that product.

A market research is conducted by a herd of scientists storming a market and studying everyone in sight. It could be anywhere from the food market to the stock market. These scientists have to be quick on their feet and very friendly. Sometimes they disguise themselves but most of the time they do not.
