To treat heart disease in dogs the amount of blood flow to the heart must be increased. This is possible through diet and exercise, but for more serious cases surgery may be required. Fluid retention is common in heart disease, proper diet can help decrease the amount of fluid which causes pressure on the dogs lungs and abdomen.

Heart disease in dogs is a treatable disease if found early enough. It needs a low salt diet, exercise restriction, and medication to increase the heart function and prevent any more heart problems.
