yes it does. Transmission includes gear box, clutch, prop shaft, differential and final drive shafts. Transmission reduces and increases the speed of the engine. The ability of switching gears manually definitely affects the speed of the car. It, therefore is advisable to go for automatic car.

The performance of the transmission can be affected in the event of internal component failure. This means that sometime vehicle acceleration is decreased. Sometime though it just results it shuddering and improper shifting. If you think yours is having problems then you should have a transmission shop take a look.
