Provera works in many ways. Treatment of sleep apnea due to an abnormality of the breathing trigger in the medulla is more difficult; medroxyprogesterone (Provera) may stimulate breathing, or it may be necessary, in extreme cases, to implant a pacemaker in the diaphragm. Provera progesterone hormone is used in the treatment of abnormal menstrual bleeding, difficult menstruation, lack of menstruation.

Provera is the trade name for progesterone, one of the two major hormones controlling the female menstrual cycle. By taking Provera, you are telling your uterus that it is time to shed its' lining and hence begin a menstrual cycle. In treating some menstrual abnormalities, a forced menstruation is required to evaluate and treat the condition.

Provera is derived from progesterone, a female hormone. It's action in the body then simulates that of progesterone in women who no longer produce sufficient progesterone or who have an imbalance. Provera can also help prevent the abnormal growth of the uterine lining in women who are on estrogen replacement therapy.

Depo Provera works by suppressing the hormones that trigger ovulation. Because those hormones are suppressed and ovulation does not occur, the period also typically stops.
