Lazy Susans work by a base sitting on a platform that contains ball bearings. The ball bearings allow the platform to rotate on the platform.

Put them in a big cabinet for storage or you can put it on a table top. On a table you would center it and put salt and pepper shakers/napkins/etc. It sits still and you turn the top unit which spins around in a circle, base stays in place.

A Lazy Susan is meant to save you from reaching across the table- they rotate to provide condiments, or dinner complements to all parts of the dinner party w/out reaching.

A large turntable is mounted on a platform underneath and the turntable can then rotate freely in a full circle. The rotating mechanism usually consists of a series of ball bearings in a circular track mounted between the turntable and the platform to allow for smooth motion.

It is the size of a large plate and is put in the center of a table. You can put a variety of food on it, or condiments, and it spins around so that everyone around the table can easily get what they need. Perfect for big groups.
