A film camera captures pictures by opening the shutter (like a curtain), and allowing light to hit the film. The image is burned into the film, and later the film is developed with chemicals. A digital camera allows the light to hit a sensor instead of film. The sensor then records the amount and color of light on each pixel.

Camera's record light. When a picture is taken the lens which work like our eye, opens and light hits film which in turn takes a picture
