Instead of telling it streightway,first oppreciate common affiliations betwen the two. Create more interest in such matters. For example if you both are interested in instrumental music,tell him how you improved your skill and encourage him to devote more time and energy for prefection of that art which generally is not found common. Then say ,i like you really.
