How do you replace the starter in a Ford Focus?

I am confident that the starter is going bad in my Ford Focus, I would like to replace it myself in order to save some money.

Disconnect the positive and negative battery cables from the battery. Locate starter. Disconnect all wires from the starter. Remove any bolts or nuts that are holding the starter in place. Reinstall the starter and connect all wires to the starter. Reconnect battery.

Traditionally this is an easy task however I have never done this myself. It might be a good idea to look online of buy a repair manual.

Start by disconnecting the battery then if possible the wires to the starter. Then remove the starter mounting bolts. Sometimes you may have to remove the bolts then the wires. Installation is reverse of removal.

What you will need to do is remove the battery cable from the starter and take it off. Replace your new one in the reverse way you took the other one off. Check with the store you are buying your starter from. They may have a manual you could follow.

If the starter is going bad, jack the car up and unbolt the starter next to the transmission. Bring it to your local Autozone where they can test it.
