Question by  fervidbulldog (34)

How do you make a two-tier or two-layer cake that doesn't have a seam around the outside that shows through the icing?

I don't want to use fondant.

First make sure your cakes are completely cooled. Cover your first layer with a thin amount of icing (more on top for filling). Add and ice your top layer to the bottom. Let the layers "dry" for 10- 15 minutes, then cover with a heavier layer of icing.

You could coat your cake with thinly rolled out marzipan, nothing will show through there. Melted chocolate will also do the trick, I guess. Enjoy!

Be very careful, but take a sharp knife and skim off the seam to make the side of the cake smooth. Add a thicker amount of icing on the edge.

Using plenty of filling between layers and a thick layer of frosting on the sides of the cake you can smooth it so there is no visible seam
