How do you know what size dehumidifier to get?

I want to make sure it is big enough for my basement.

If it is 500 square feet or under then you need one that removes 10 pints per 24 hours if it's bigger then you will need something larger.

It depends on how much moisture in the basement and the size. If yours is very wet, 14-20 pints is fine. Moderately wet, go for 12-27 pints. Not very wet, 10-22 pints. The larger the room, the more pints you want in your range. Your choice mainly depends on how often you want to empty the water.

Any size humidifier will pull moisture from the air. The amount of moisture in your basement is the main determinate in your dehumidifier size decision. If you have a large basement with lots of moisture, then a large unit would be appropriate. If you have a low moisture environment, then a small unit will suffice.

It should say on the box the size of room that unit is designed for. If you are trying to dry out a damp basement it would probably be wise to just get the most powerful one you can find. As long as it has variable speed control and a built in humidistat it should handle any situation.

Since basements are typically large, I would recommend getting the biggest size dehumidifier you find. This way it the machine will be able to emit steam throughout the entire space.

When going to the store, know how many square foot you are wanting to use this for. The box will usually give the amount per square foot it will cover.

This depends on the size of your basement. Most dehumidifiers have a size rating on the box. You just need to figure out the square footage of your basement.

Usually you can go to any store that sells them, and on the box for the dehumidfier there will be information on what size room each one is best for.

Usually, you can get an idea of the space a dehumidifier works for by looking at the specifications on the side of the box.

Well, no average people really know things like that. Your best bet is to go to the store to look at the dehumidifiers and read the labels. Somewhere on it they should tell you how many square feet it'll cover.
