There are a few symptoms associated with a blood clot. The affected area might be inflammed (reddened or swollen). Also the affected area may have pain with extension or flexion

A blood clot is not always bad. When you get a cut, you want the blood to clot. However, inappropriate blood clots can form in small blood vessels, cutting off oxygen supply to tissue. This can result in a stroke, which would present with numbness in certain body parts.

There is no way to tell for sure, other than to see a doctor and having testing done. That being said, some signs that occur in some (but not all) cases include swelling, discoloration, and pain. These signs do not appear for every clot, however, and can also appear when there is no clot.

Blood clots are serious. If one is in the legs or arm the area will be painful. The area may feel hot or be swollen.
