How do you know if your foot is broken?

I fell three days ago and had a lot of pain but it is much worse now. Could it be broken?

If you can walk on it or put weight on it, it's not broken, unless it's a very minor break. If you can walk, odds are you've just sprained it which can sometimes hurt just as bad or worse. Check with your doctor to be sure though.

Feet have a lot of bones in them, and fractures are not uncommon. Of course, sprains, strains and other, more minor, injuries are common, as well. The only way to tell for sure is to have your foot x-rayed and evaluated by a doctor.

If you have broken a bone you will have swelling, discoloration of the skin and pain. If you feel that it could be broken you should see a doctor.

Most people know immediately upon breaking a bone, excruciating pain and immediate bruising accompanied by swelling are the most common symptoms. More likely you sprained your foot or ankle.

If your foot is broke or sprained is there anything you can do for it besides going to the doctor? I'm out of work but if I have to go I'll go.

Is there anything you can do for a broke foot or sprain? I'm out of work and really can't afford to go to the doctor.
