How do you know if something is wrong with your Audi oil cooler?

I have been having some trouble with my car, and a friend suggested that the oil cooler wasn't doing it's job, but I don't know he really knows what he is talking about.

Regarding oil coolers, signs that a cooler is not functioning properly is higher engine temperatures and lower oil pressure. Engine oil coolers, as with any radiator, becomes clogged over time from engine contaminents. The ensuing problem being that sufficient amounts of oil cannot be cooled due to fluid bottlenecks.

Hope you would know if your oil cooler is not functioning properly if you have a gauge that gives you oil temperature readings. Hot oil can aid in engine overheating and cause problems. So only way to know if it is working properly is to check the temperature of oil going in and out this can be checked via gauge

The only way to know if it is working properly is to check the temperature of the oil going in and out. This would be hard to do without special equipment. You check for leaks by apply air pressure to the coolant ports.
