How do you keep an inmate from getting released?

He made a threat to me relating to when he gets out of prison.

Tell this to the police. This might seem like a whimpy thing to do, but at least you can have a say. This will be treated as threatening and he might be entitled to more jail time if a judge is convinced he meant this threat.

It depends. If the inmate has completed his sentence then there is nothing you can do. The court has set a determinate sentence or a range and once that time period has been reached the inmate is released. If the inmate is being released on parole you could petition the parole board requesting a denial.

If you want to stay into legality, there is little you can do apart reporting the fact to authorities. Unfortunately, with no proofs, there is little they can do too.

You need to file for a peace order or restraining order at your local courthouse. Be sure to have some type of proof. Also report it to his prison officials.
