Viruses are something that has to "run their course". Antibiotics do not help. You can treat the symptoms with Immodium, Pepto Bismol, etc. until the virus has passed.

You're right antibiotics don't work on viruses. They work only on bacteria. Many viruses do not have a cure as such. You let them run their course. Some go dormant. Chicken Pox and Herpes are that sort of virus and all you can do is manage the symptoms.

There's a different types of viruses, and for some of them we have specific treatment, for others we don't. Antibiotics work against bacteria, so they are useless for viruses, but we have some antiviral medicaments, like Acyclovir, which fight some viruses. Also, we have vaccines, that prevent some viral diseases. And strong immunity can prevent the viruses to attack.

Antibiotics should get rid of a virus over time but sometimes they just need to go away on their own. You can use over the counter medicines or antibiotics to help you relieve your symptoms in the mean time.
