Hives are generally an allergic reaction. If you experience other symptoms such as shortness of breath, you should go to a healthcare provider immediately. S/he may test to determine the underlying cause (allergen or trigger) then will most likely administer an antihistamine and/or anti-inflammatory, either orally or by injection. An oral antihistamine may be sufficient; always consult your provider.

First you need to figure out what the hives are from so you can make sure to avoid getting them again. To help get rid of hives, there are many creams and ointments you can buy to help sooth and heal them.

If your hives aren't caused by a serious condition, you can wipe an anti-allergy medicine on them. Benedryl worked for my son's hives.

Hives can be combated with antihistamines. Benadryl is used the most but it usually makes you drowsy. There are also topical ointments available for smaller hive areas. Oils like lavendar, chamomile and sandalwood are often used. Apply something cold to the skin. Grab anything from the freezer and put on the hives if you are in a hurry.

Any allergy medication will work. You can use claritin, Allerga or any of the other ones on the market. You can even try Benedryl, but please be careful with this as many people are allergic to it. You can also take a bath in baking soda and water, as well.
