I typically use non-allopathic methods, which isn't approved by the FDA. I use what works for me, and what has been used for thousands of years. Echinacea tea and goldenrod is a popular combination for coughs and colds. Honey is always a good addition because of it's healing qualities. Also, increase vitamin C intake; fresh oranges are the best choice.

If you have not gone to see a doctor, you should to rule out a serious condition. At home, cut back on eating or drinking milk products. Take honey, drink lots of fluids and use menthol-related products. Wear clothing that warms the chest area like a vest or undershirt.

To get rid of a cough, it really depends on what it came from. If you're a chronic smoker, there's nothing you can do. If you just got over a cold, it is very common to have a cough for a while. There's not much that can treat it, so just wait it out and use cough drops.

Do you have pets in the house? Do you get enough fresh air in the house in the winter? Have you told your doctor about this?

Depends on other symptoms and conditions. I suggest talking to a pharmacist or doctor. However, Delsym is commonly used for dry coughs and Mucinex is commonly used for productive coughs.
