If the gum is not embedded in the carpet too deeply, applying ice to the gum and freezing it should free it from the carpet. A handy way to apply the ice is, put it in a plastic zip lock bag and continue to rub it over the gum.

If gum is still soft try to pull off as much as possible then take an ice cube and freeze the remaining bubble gum till hard. Once hard gently pull upwards untell gum is released from carpet. If any left over gum peices left gently pull on the carpent and lightly trim the carpets excess.

Put some ice cubes in a plastic bag that you can seal without leaking and put the bag over the bubble gum in the carpet until the gum becomes hard and frozen. Then try to remove bubble gum with knife. This may take many efforts to get all of it.
