The Quarterback takes the center snap and drop backs. The Tailback will fake receiving the hand off and will briefly block. As the defense closes in on the quarterback, the tailback will make himself open for a reception. The quarterback will under hand pitch to the tailback at the line of scrimmage.

A shuffle, or shovel, pass is a type of underhand or non-overhand pass a quarteback makes to another player, whether it be to a wideout, flanker, runningback or other eligible receiver. It requires the quarterback to palm the ball "granny"-style and toss it underhand or side-hand to another player in what football rules consider a forward motion.

A shuffle pass is quite easy and doesn't require any special athletic ability. First, you must be the Quarterback. Second, you want to perform a shuffle pass by almost flicking the ball to your running back. It's not an overhand throw or an underhand toss. It's more of a pushing the ball to your teammate.

Any very short pass to a receiver who is in front of the QB. If it is thrown underhand, then the receiver can not be past the line of scimmage.

The correct term you are looking for is "shovel pass. " This pass is thrown from the quarterback to the runningback (sometimes referred to as a halfback). The quarterback takes the snap, the runningback runs to a spot just behind the linemen, and the quarterback then flicks the ball to the runningback in a sideways motion. Like a backwards frisbee throw.

The quarterback drops back from the snap as if he was going to make a normal pass down the field. After a 3-5 step drop he would then use his non throwing hand to either underhand a pass to the running back who is cutting toward the offensive linemen
