As long as you are burning to a DVD-R or DVD+R there is no way to record over your dvd. Once the dvd is burned it is "mastered" and finalized. However, DVD-+RW's can be rewritten over, hence the w for rewrite. Just make sure to use a DVD+-R.

It can be done with software, such as DVD Architect. Only DVD Architect Pro has copy protection abilities. Using this software, just go to File->Properties->Copy Protection.

The easiest way to copy protect a DVD is to use a specific type of DVD. DVD+-R is the simplest. R means it can only be recorded on one time.
