If your television has component input and output, then using component cables, which are colored with white, red, and yellow ends, will be the simplest way to connect it to a DVD player. If not, you can connect both to a converter box with a coaxial cable.

If you are trying to get a coax (barrel) plug TV to work with an RCA (three colored wires) connector, you'll need an adaptor box which should run about $20. These adaptors may be available for other wiring conversions, but this device will properly convert the signal.

For the really old televisions you need a converter box and a coaxial cable. The converter allows you to plug the red, white and yellow audio and video cables into the one end while the converter's other end attaches to your ancient television and converts the signal for your TV.

Most TV's in general should have a slot in which you can connect the DVD player to it. You might want to make sure that the TV can play DVD's.
