Remove 1 foot of soil and compact it. Lay down a barrier sheet and add about a foot of road base construction material. After this, add some crush and run, followed by about 4 inches of concrete and rocks.

It will take some preparation to build a rock driveway. You will need footers on each side of the driveway, rake the driveway smooth, and lay sand between footers. Sand will hold rocks in place. Also lay sand on top of rocks for extra strength; so as not to cause shifting of the rocks.

The process takes a lot of preparation and then a lot of persistence. There may be videos or books available at your local library that can describe the process.

Put footers on each side of the driveway (width). Rake smooth, put down sand, rake smooth and the lay the rocks or pavers. The sand will hold the rock in place. You can put more sand over the rocks after you have layed that so they will not shift.

First, dig out the space you would like the driveway to occupy; dig to a depth of around three inches. If you want smooth, patio-like rock, lay them in and pour heavy sand around them to secure the driveway. IF you prefer gravel, simply dump it into the space you have cleared.

You buy rocks and put each of them next to each other at two sides of your driveway until it's look good to you
