How do we tell our wedding guests that in lieu of gifts we are asking for donations to Rev Al?

If you want guests to donate to a charity in lieu of gifts, the best way is to pass that along by word of mouth. If anyone asks about registry, you can also tell them then. I would ask close family and friends to pass this information along for you.

It would be appropriate to include an insert with the invitations indicating your preference for donations in lieu of gifts. It should not be printed directly on the invitation itself. Realize that some guests will most likely disregard this and instead choose to give you a gift and most guests will want to give a card indicating their donation.
