A rooster mounts the hen and they have sex, much like humans. The rooster's sperm enters the hen, traveling through her oviduct to fertilize the eggs that are there. After this, the eggs are covered with a shell and are soon laid by the hen.

The rooster stands on the hen's back. He covers her and delivers sperm into her cloaca. One mating act can supply enough sperm to last her for three weeks.
