How do I repair a pull cord on a Craftsmen mower?

The pull cord on my Craftsmen mower is almost torn all the way through.

Purchase replacement rope from a small engine supply store. Remove shroud and any attachments bolted to it. The recoil mechanism is inside the shroud. Remove the screws and cut the rope. Unwind spring, remove old rope, place rope knoted end in slot, and let spring rewind the rope, relace shroud.

Remove the top cover on the mower and unwind and remove the pull cord. Slide the new pull cord into the hole in the cover and tie a knot then let it rewind back into the cover. Put handle back on it.

All you need to do is contact the dealer and they will send out another one for you or you can do a net search.

You can replace the cord by taking off the cover where the string goes into the motor and swapping the cord for a new one.
