Open your start menu, go to control panel, click advanced settings, scroll down until you see the option to adjust your desktop setting. Look for "Task Bar Icons" and uncheck the box.

Right click on your task bar and go to properties and customize. Remove any you don't want. You can also uninstall programs or prevent them from starting using msconfig.

Right-click on your task bar near the notifications. Select properties. From there, select Customize. You can also go to Start and go to Accessories. Select Run and type MS Config. You can then select the Startup tab and select what programs to run at startup.

If the icons you want to remove are not necessary, you can uninstall the programs via the Control Panel's Add/Remove Programs section. If you want the programs running, just not showing icons, you can right-click down by the clock, choose properties, and you can choose to hide inactive icons, or manually configure ones to hide.

You're going to have to open each individual program and change the start option. Then they wont start up when Windows loads. Or you can go to run and type msconfig then select "start up", then form there you can edit the programs that start up when windows loads.

some icons in the task bar can be disabled like for example a anti-virus scanner, yo just have to right click on the icon and look for the menu that says disable or exit. Usually the icon when you right click on them will have an exit option and clicking on that will remove it.

If you want to close those programs, you can usually just right click on them and say Exit or close or something equivalent. If you just want to hide those icons, then right click on the taskbar>properties>Notification Area (Customize)> and you can select which icons should appear/be hidden.

Two options are there to do this. First one is just right click on the icon and click exit option. Second one is to continue the options as below task bar-properties-Notification Area –then click icon which one you don't want.

Right-click the taskbar and choose properties. Click on the taskbar tab. Check the 'Hide Inactive Icons' box. NOTE: this will not remove all icons, most will stop showing up shortly.

In order to remove the icons on your task bar you will first need to right click on them. Then you can simply just click the delete button once you have right clicked.
