Brain freeze is caused by your blood vessels in your head contracting. They do this to reduce the amount of blood flow to keep your brain warm. This is a result of you brain incorrectly interpreting the ice cream as cold weather. Eat the ice cream slower.

The only way to do this is to eat the ice cream slowly. Brain freeze comes from having too much cold ice cream coming into your body at once.

The best method to prevent sphenopalatine (this is the technical name for what we have come to know as brain freeze) is to eat the ice cream slowly, and avoid large bites and/or gulps of the ice cream. Basically, it would be wisdom to keep large amounts of cold away from the roof of your mouth.

One way is to prevent the food from touching the roof of the mouth. You can also let the food warm up a little before eating.
