You'd still have to pay your dues by taking stylist classes, or some related field. You need to make the connections to network. You can take your ideas to a salon, but you still have to earn your "scissors" by starting from scratch. A design or business associates degree is a good start.

You can start by either doing an apprenticeship with a professional hairstylist who is willing to apprentice you, or you can go to cosmetology school.
