You can find basic EMT courses at most community colleges and even some fire stations. These are a prerequisite for paramedic training and there are a few levels of training you need to go through. Price depends on the college and there are also textbook costs, plus there will be plenty of exams!

You should at least have basic first aid knowledge before you venture into the field, take a local college course and gain a certification. After that you can enrol in specific paramedic centric courses. A drivers license is also a highly likely requirement.

A paramedic must complete the required number of classroom training hours, then spend time on the job observing. The training is intense, the ability to remember it and react correctly under pressure on the job is critical. After training is completed, there is a licensing exam, which is difficult but the job is rewarding.
