Idle time is when there is nothing going on. If you share folders on a network everytime you access that system it is no longer idle. Now if your drives are always being accessed when your not using your computer you may have a virus or malware. Adding more idle time really does nothing to help your system.

I'm not sure why you think your computer needs more idle time but there are basically two ways to accomplish this: add more processing power or run fewer applications.

Depending on what kind of idle time you need, there are several options: 1. Just leave the computer on. Close any background tasks (such as Antivirus), that may run while you are away. 2. Boot your computer to the BIOS, and just leave it there. This will idle the hardware.

Go to Desktop and right click on an empty space. Select "properties", and click on "Screen Saver" tab. Click on "Power" option. A new window will open. Under the "Settings for Home/Office desk power scheme" choose the required time in minutes from the drop downs for Turn off Monitor, Turn off Hard Disk and System Standby.

Depends on what exactly you mean by this. Usually this means one or more programs are utilizing all the processing resource available. Fire up your Task Manager and browse the list of processes to see which one is causing the slow down.
