Products like rinses or semi-permanent colorings do not change the composition of the hair. However, dyes do alter the hair's original composition. Some feel that dyes actually weaken the hair, so you have to be extremely careful while using dyes. The strands chemical makeup is actually modified with a dye. With rinses, such a change doesn't occur.

Hair color products work by altering the color of the hair. Any part of the hair which comes into contact with hair colo will be dyed.
