How do business and finance stack up as far as college degrees go?

Finance is way better than business in my opinion. Finance gives you something that can be applied straight away while business gives you the philosophies to run a business but no practical knowledge. I feel most "business" is learned through experience

With the United States in a recession, the finance side of business is risky with the job market barren. The business element works in all industries without limiting to finance.

Both degree programs are useful. First you should decide what type of job do you see yourself in after you receive a college degree than tell the university or school and they will help you choose a degree program for that type of employment. Most universities help find employment after getting your degree as well.
