We celebrate Saint Patrick's Day on March 17 each year. Saint Patrick brought Christianity to Ireland by converting the people who were in power at the time. It is believed that March 17 is the day that Saint Patrick died, and we usually celebrate it in the United States by holding a parade.

St. Patrick died on March 17, 461 and that is the date of the holiday. Patrick was kidnapped from Britain to Ireland when he was 16 years old. He escaped captivity to Britain and studied to become a priest. He was called back to Ireland to convert the native Irish to Christianity and evangelized for almost 30 years.

March 17, 461 is the day Saint Patrick died. Patrick, whose name was really Maewyn, was very active in converting many to Christianity in Ireland. He became the patron saint of Ireland, and St. Patrick's Day is celebrated on March 17.

The reason Saint Patrick's Day is on march 17th is because that is the day Saint Patrick died, and was buried. The celebration is more of a remembrance to him.
