Profound hearing loss must be treated medically. Some hearing loss can be corrected with hearing aids or surgery such as cochlear implant but this can only be determined after testing.

My first thought is that a hearing aid would help some but actually I like the advances that I read about regarding cochlear implants. I know that the deaf community has some political issues regarding these but to deny someone the ability to hear music or voices or even distressing sounds is wrong when there are better choices

Unfortunately, hearing loss is permanent in most cases. Damage to your inner ear frequently heals itself. Despite this, advancing medical technology has allowed for great hearing aids that can restore your hearing, without being very noticeable.

To treat a case of profound hearing loss, you should go to see an audiologist and get a hearing aid.
