How can you construct a decorative pond?

My wife wants a pond put in the back yard that looks calm and serene.

Dig out the area to a depth of 3 feet. Install a pond liner available at large home improvement stores. Fill the bottom with round rock. Fill with water.

Some basics first - you need a place for the pond to hold water and a pump to refill and empty it. You will also need the right filters and basic equipment. After that let your imagination loose and work with rocks, some pipes, plants, sand and lights.

If you need it to look calm and serene I would suggest you use a combination of smooth rocks, a waterfall and some soft hanging plants. The small waterfall should create a trickling sound that is very soothing. Don't use any harsh lighting at night.

You can purchase a kit relatively cheap at any of the DIY stores. you can also call local landscapers to purchase the type of rocks you want.

Start off by drawing what you want and the size. I would suggest you use light rocks at the bottom in clear water. Put a few fish in too. Put soft lights under the water so it looks great at night. You can get this all at local stores.  add a comment

a pond for a home should be calm, quiet and relaxing. and for that shrubs and herbs and bushes surrounding the pond are necessary for the decoration. there should be a stair made by stone or brick that steps down towards the pond by small risers.
