It depends upon your budget as well as what is under the paint on the present cabinets. If there is decent wood under the paint, simply strip it down and then refinish the wood with satin urethane. If not, or if you don't want to go to that much trouble, buy and install replacement cabinets.

First you will need to sand the cabinets to remove all the paint. Then before you can proceed with the new changes you need to clean the cabinets with some form of paint thinner. Once the cabinets have dried they should be ready to add lacquer to bring out the natural beauty of the original wood.

If it is painted wooden cabinets, you have to remove the existing painting by using sand paper. No trace of coulour should be left out. Clean the surface with a cloth and apply 2 coats of wood polish over a coat of wood primer. Your place will have different look.

Well you have to make sure you scrape off the paint and get a wooden glazing to cover the surface. You can also just buy wooden cabinets.

The only way to do that is strip the paint off of the old cabinets, sand them down, and stain them. It won't be easy and might not be possible.

If they're originally quality wood cabinets that have been painted, it may be possible for you to strip and refinish the cabinets. If that's not an option, there is also a process known as refacing, which entailes removing the the doors and facia and replacing them with solid wood of your choice. A cheaper alternative to replacing the cabinets outright.

If the cabinets are painted wood, strip them. If they aren't wood, consider having the doors refaced in wood to create an all new look.

Sanding the paint off either by hand, or with an electric sander, is the easiest way to turn painted cabinets into wooden ones.

You will need to strip the paint from the cabinets using chemical stripper. You could also use a tool that when you paint the cabinets, the tool makes faux woodgrain. It is pretty easy to do and beats stripping cabinets anyday. Use a brown paint and this hand tool and keep a steady hand and do it in one stroke.
