How can I stop ants from coming in my apartment?

I mean, other than spraying poison or closing windows--those things are not options!

Some asian markets sell this white chalk for 50 cents or a dollar. you just draw a couple lines across the ant lines and in a day or two, your problem is solved. note that this only works for lines of ants, not ones that are aimlessly searching for food.

I've used this stuff and it works great! Problem is, the hardware store I bought it in no longer carries it, and I can't find any place that carries it. Can anyone suggest a place where I can get it?  add a comment

Ants can be stopped from coming in several ways. You can put dried bay leaves which can be found at any grocery store in windows or near floorboards, basically any place an ant could gain entry. Wash your floors with Borax (hard surfaces) the residue is abrasive to ants and the will not want to walk on it.

1. Vacuum absolutely everything, so there are no crumbs or spills to attract them. Mop, too, and clean out any leaky juice. 2. Put cinnamon powder or crushed pepper powder in a ring around your floor to keep them out. Ants can't get past it, and it's nontoxic.

i like the vacuuming idea - if there is no source of food, they will lose interest.  add a comment

My grandmother never used sprays to get rid of ants. I discovered her secret. The best and natural way to get rid of ants is vinegar. She would place small bowls of vinegar by her windows. Ants hate the stuff and it is natural.
