One of the most important thing to prevent splitting is to yearly maintenance of trimming in order to avoid splitting of your tree. This works best and you will not have splitting throughout the year.

Sadly there is nothing to be done for your Bradford Pear tree. The branching habit of Bradford Pears causes them all to split within eight years or so of planting. There is nothing you can do except take down the tree and replace it with something more long-lived, such as the Aristocrat pear.
