It is perfectly normal to dream. In fact, everyone dreams regularly, even if they do not remember their dreams the next day. Because dreaming is a natural part of the sleep cycle, there is nothing that you can to to keep yourself from dreaming any more than you could just decide to stop sleeping at all.

Sometimes you can force yourself to wake up in your dreams, otherwise, there isn't much you can do about it. If you want to interupt your sleep patterns, I would recommend drinking a lot of water before bed, but even then, it very well may not stop you from dreaming.

One of the best ways to avoid dreaming is to be sleep deprived. While it's not healthy to deprive yourself of sleep, people typically don't remember dreams when they are making up lost hours of sleep. Keep in mind, you always dream, you just don't always remember it.

There really isn't any way that you can make yourself stop dreaming. A lot of times you tend to dream if you go to bed thinking about a certain thing. Other factors weigh in this too. The better sleep you get the more likely you are to dream since you have to be in a certain stage to dream.
