How can I locate someone that is in the process of being deported?

Once someone is taken into custody and it is determined that deportation is the next step, the individual is for the most part persona non-grata. The matter is not public and the INS is not obligation to track the individual for public inquiries. If you know he's being deported, contact him when he gets back home.

Deportation is a criminal proceeding. The government is under no obligation to provide information or respond to inquiries about individuals who are being deported.

It is unlikely that the authorities will discuss the matter with you. Deportation proceedings and documentation are not public and the records are not public. You may be able to obtain some information through FOIA after the case is closed, but while it is in the process you probably won't be able to learn much about it.

If an Order of Deportation has already been issued, your friend is likely being detained in the closest Federal Immigration Court. If you know the case number, contact USCIS.
