Talk to the veterinarian that told you your dog has an irregular heartbeat. There's not much you can do at home. There may be medication. Treatment depends on the reason for the ailment. Your vet can explain in detail how to best handle the problem.

Most of the time it's not an issue. However, you do tend to have problems with dogs that have irregular heartbeats during times such as surgery. If your dog isn't already spayed or neuetered, when this happens they will have to watch your dog close.

There are plenty of medications for dogs with irregular heartbeats in this day, but it is extremely hard to get the dosage correct at first. Your vet will keep the dog closely monitored during that process. If the irregularity is severe, they may suggest fitting the dog with a pacemaker.
