Bonsai plants require a lot of care. The roots grow in a small container so nutrients will be used up quickly. Fertilize weekly when watering and be sure to keep the soil moist but not too wet.

Bonsai trees take quite a lot of know-how. You should definately do plenty of research before you start, as different trees will need different kinds of care. You can grow bonsai both indoors and outdoors. Some trees are happy in a warm indoor environment, but many aren't and need to be kept in shady, well-ventilated spots.

Begin with a seed, cutting or young plant of your choice. Plant this in a small bonsai pot. As it grows, periodically prune the shoots to keep it small, making sure not to prune too much. Every couple of years or so, you will also need to prune the roots as well.
