The most important thing is to have a safe stable home environment with lots of love for them to grow up in. Then get an attorney to help you legally.

You have to go to court and file papers to obtain custody of your children. In order to keep them from living part time with the other parents you're going to have to show that you have the best home for the kids.

This would depend on what stage you are at in your divorce. If have just filed for divorce, you would request and show why you should receive primary physical custody of your children. This is usually granted to the primary caretaker of the children. If you have had a disposition you would need to file for a change in custody.

First obtain a lawyer who specializes in this because it is a very complex topic. Also important is to create an enviroment suitable for children. Have a source of income, but be available to parent, live in a good neighboorhood with a good school. Have a track record of being a good parent to this children.
