cleaning

How can I clean yellow stains off my white kitchen counter tops?

I just moved into a new apartment, and the previous tenants left the counters badly stained. I'm not sure what the counters are made of, something inexpensive. I tried a bleach spray, which has worked in the past, but it just made the stains yellow.

If bleach did not remove the stains, you might try baking soda and vinegar which works miracles; let it sit on the stain, sink in, and then wipe it clean. If this fails, try Mean Green which even removed oil from carpets and just about anything else, but dilute it first!

The easiest way to whiten counters is to use baking soda, vinegar and plastic scouring pad. Sprinkle a liberal amount of baking soda. Apply vinegar using a spray bottle. Let stand for 5 minutes. Gently scrub the baking soda/vinegar mixture with the scouring pad and rinse clean.

I've found that lemon juice may work where bleach doesn't. You might also try making a paste of water and sodium bicarbonate (pick it up in the baking goods section of the supermarket), leave the paste on the stains overnight and rinse off with water the next morning.

I have had incredible success with those magic erasers...even the inexpensive knockoff brands. I've cleaned stains that bleach couldn't.
