Usually most recent Microsoft Word programs automatically check both spelling and grammar. Spelling errors will be underlined in red and grammar errors will be underlined in green so you can tell them apart and fix them both. I know this feature exists on Microsoft Office 2007/2008, and I seem to recall that it existed on older versions like 2003 also.

To check grammar in 'Microsoft Works' open documents, go to tools and choose options. Once in options, under proofing tool, choose grammar and spelling in the second drop down menu.

Microsoft Word indicates an obvious grammar error by underlining sentences in green, much like it flags spelling errors with a red underline. However, no computer program is perfect and it is always a good idea to have a talented copy editor review important documents and assignments.
